Bedis Beach Field Trip with Biology Students

We were at Bedis Beach-Silver Beach for the applied studies in the field that we carry out every year together with the students of the Molecular Biology and Genetics Department. We searched nests and cleaned the area of 3 km in total, and we covered the two newly found nests with cages and protection pyramids. We would like to thank our future colleagues for their participation in our enjoyable and exhausting work.

    The First Nest of 2022

The first nest of the season has been found at Onur Camping. Caretta carettas, who arrived 10 days late compared to last year, made us curious :) Anyway, they have arrived now. Let it be the first of hundreds of slots. May their babies reach their seas in health and safety.

Field Works with EMU Cultural Heritage and Archeology Club

We were at Caesar and Bafra beaches with EMU Cultural Heritage and Archeology Club. Together we cleaned these beautiful beaches and with the support we received from each other, we found a new energy before the finals. When our underwater works started, we decided to continue working together.

We would like to thank them for their support in our cleaning and conservation efforts. Hope to see you more often. 🐢❤️

    WE HAVE STARTED AGAIN

Our team has started searching for nests with our new volunteers.

We have started cleaning and nest-searching activities on the beaches in Famagusta and Iskele region with wide participation for 10 days.

Although we have not found any nests yet, we are very happy to have found time to clean our beaches so that Caretta carettas can nest more comfortably.

Come quickly, turtles! We missed you so much!

The Greatest Enemies of Caretta Carettas

While the summer of 2021 is behind us, the greatest disappointment for Caretta caretta conservation volunteers was in Long Beach. Vehicles that entered the beach all summer destroyed turtle nests, many of which were not able to be found and protected. Similarly, most of the nests we managed to find were destroyed by vehicles.
We have to be more sensitive to these creatures that are in danger of extinction. The state should also prevent the entrance to the beaches by vehicles during the breeding period of Caretta Carettas. Deterrent penalties should be executed to protect these creatures.
